| RM17bil initial investment for SJER project |

JOHOR BARU: More than RM17bil is expected to be initially pumped into the 2,217sq km South Johor Economic Region (SJER) project which is 2.5 times the size of Singapore and 48 times as big as Putrajaya.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said it was Malaysia's vision to make the region the new international address for business, investment, leisure and culture and to showcase all that the nation could be.
"Not only will this ambitious effort benefit the people of Johor, it will also bring great returns to all Malaysians.
"The SJER is the single-largest development project ever to be undertaken in the region.
It is one of the most important and ambitious initiatives not only in the Ninth Malaysia Plan(9MP) but also in the history of our development," he said in his speech at the launching of the SJER by the Johor Sultan.
The SJER will be officially called the Iskandar Regional Development, a name given in honour of the Ruler. |
